===What is the cost going to be?===
Final price on the glasses will be $180 total (this is $175 for the glasses,
plus $5 to ship them via UPS ground to you). If you want them sent via any
other means (UPS Red/Blue, Federal Express, COD, International, etc) then
you, of course, must pay any shipping above that $5. If you happen to be
close to me and want to pick them up then that is fine with me -- actually,
that'd make one less package I'd have to ship -- and it will save you $5.
===What all is included? (i.e. What exactly will I get?)===
I will send you the following:
- (1) pair of Toshiba 3D LCD Shutter-Glasses
- (2) rubber light blocks to make viewing easier (1 for each side)
- (1) 13' 1.5" (4 m) 3.5 diameter stereo mini plug extension cable
- (1) Vinyl "carrying case"
- (1) "Owner's Manual" (6 pages) with warranty information
- (1) Toshiba Product Registration card
===So, tell me about the Glasses.===
I have one pair sitting in front of me right now. (I bought a pair myself
and had it shipped to me beforehand so that I could make sure it was what
we wanted).
It is the same Toshiba 3D Shutter Glasses that everyone else has. It is
SEGA-compatible -- just plug it into whatever circuit you might use for
SEGA glasses -- it has a normal 3.5 diameter stereo mini plug/jack.
The "glasses" themselves are very nice! They consist of an adjustable
"headband" (made of plastic with rubber cushioning around the inside) which
is attached to the visor that contains the liquid crystal lenses. The visor
sits about 1.5" from your eyes and can be worn comfortably without
interferring with your glasses (I had my roommate put them on over an
average-sized pair of glasses and it fit fine.) The headband is adjustable
from 20.5" to 24" (52 cm to 61 cm). The unit itself has a good "feel" to
me and weighs only 180 g (6.375 oz).
The unit is black with a small blue stripe running around the headband.
A 31.5" (80 cm) long lead wire is attached to the headband and ends at a
3.5 diameter stereo mini plug/jack (male), as I said. Also included is
a 13' 1.5" (4 m) extension cord (female at one end, male at the other, of
course) so you can sit back as far as you'd like! (Although 13' is a bit
far to get any decent viewing, eh?) Two rubber "shields" that slip onto
the sides of the visor are included; they help block extra light from the
sides and back for easier viewing.
===So, tell me about the liquid crystal shutters.===
The shutter dimensions are quite nice! Each eye's liquid crystal shutter
is 1.66" (4.3 cm) high x 2.92" (7.4 cm) wide. (This is significantly
larger than the SEGA Glasses, although I do not have the exact dimensions
for the SEGAs available to me right now.) The "Owner's Manual" says
that they will open/close every 1/60th of a second. They will probably
go somewhat above this, but I have not yet pushed them to see just what
they can do. They look nice at 1/60th, in my opinion.
===What is this "carrying case" thing?===
Well, this is a little added bonus, I guess. I didn't know that I would
be getting cases; I originally thought that I would just be getting the
glasses themselves. Luckily, we got some extras! It is a black, vinyl case
with a velcro closure. The glasses sit into a cardboard insert fairly
securely. The case feels fairly durable -- I just sat on it to test it and
it supported me (~160 pounds). I feel that it is sturdy enough to protect
the glasses from obvious dangers such as someone sitting on them, etc. The
case does not have a handle, so I guess it is technically more of a "storage
case" than a "carrying case."
===This stuff is all new, right?===
Exactly! This is all new equipment -- never been used.
===So there's a warranty then?===
Toshiba provides a "Limited 90 Day Warranty." They warrant the glasses
against any defects in materials or workmanship for 90 days. You pay only
for shipping to and from the Service Center.
There is also a "Limited 1 Year Warranty." This is the same as the 90
days warranty, except you also pay for any labor charges involved in
replacing a part after the 90 day period.
===So, are you a dealer or something?===
Nope... Just a college guy that wanted to find himself some
shutter glasses and accidentally stumbled upon a short-term source
for a dozen or so glasses. I am not selling these as a dealer or
reseller -- just someone selling something that he purchased.
===What is not included?===
You get the entire Toshiba Glasses package. You do not, however, get a
PC (or any other) interface from me. These can be built by anyone with
minimal soldering skills using a circuit provided in the REND386 package
(among other places) for under $15. If you wish, I will include a photocopy
of the text file with the circuit used by most people using SEGA or Toshiba
shutter glasses for at-home VR. (I, of course, do not guarantee the circuit
or anything -- it's just the one that I (and most other people) seem to be
using now-a-days.) You also do not get any software from me -- the REND386
package (and others) that work with the shutter glasses are available from
numerous places on the Internet. I can direct you to some if necessary. in
Basically, if it wasn't listed in the "What's included?" section, then it
probably isn't.
===What if I have some questions about this stuff?===
Feel free to ask about anything I've written here! In fact, PLEASE ask. If
you have a question, someone else surely does and I do not want anyone to be
confused about what is going on...
===Where will I be mailing my payment to?===
I will re-send you my address when you confirm your purchase. If you want
it now, here it is:
John Goggan
1532 S. Mission
#319-S
Mt. Pleasant, MI 48858
However! -- Please DO NOT send me a check until you first mail me and
make sure that I still have some left -- I will reserve you a pair as
soon as you tell me to -- THEN you can send a check (after I write back
and tell you that I have a pair reserved for you)...
See you on the Net!
